Job Title: Optometric Assistant
Location: Prince George, British Columbia, Canada
Employment Type: Full-time
Salary: $25 per hour
Type of Contract: Year-round


Job Description:

-Take patients’ general medical and ophthalmic history
-Operate ophthalmic testing and measuring instruments to assess patients’ vision
-Instruct patients on diagnostic tests and record results
-Administer eye drops, ointments, and medications as directed
-Clean and maintain ophthalmic instruments and equipment
-Perform various administrative duties
-Manage dispensary: frames/lens inventory, training/managing fellow optical dispensers, dispensing patients into suitable glasses and lenses
-Operate and train team members on diagnostic optometry equipment/tests, record results to aid optometrists in assessing patients' vision and eye health
-Schedule and confirm appointments
-Perform general clerical duties
-Maintain inventory of equipment
-Manage routine office functions including reception, telephone, and booking appointments
-Order supplies and equipment
-Obtain specifications for eyeglasses or contact lenses from a prescription prepared by an Ophthalmologist and take necessary measurements
-Advise clients on eyeglasses selection
-Adjust contact lenses and inform clients on use and care
-May supervise or manage the activities of other opticians or student opticians


REQUIREMENTS:

Education: Completion of secondary school is required
Experience: A minimum of 2 years of experience in the optometric field is required OR completion of a six to twelve-month optometric assistant or a related field college program

MUST HAVE SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE IN THE FOLLOWING: 
-Previous optical and dispensary management
-Optical lab and pre-exam equipment
-Ability to accurately perform manual refractions

MUST BE ABLE TO PROVIDE THE FOLLOWING DOCUMENTS:
-Highschool Diploma
-Passport
-Job Letters from Previous Employers/Companies stating minimum 2 years of experienc - If not/OR;
-Document proving completion of a six to twelve-month optometric assistant or a related field college program
